New year's day, the world's attention to the west east gas transmission project officially launched into the Chinese economic center of Shanghai commercial supply. As the development operator and the largest user of West gas, PetroChina Co Ltd and Shanghai Natural Gas Pipeline Network Limited signed the "west east gas transmission agreement".

The continuous flow of natural gas from Jingbian, Shaanxi to Shanghai, marks the landmark project of the development of Western China, the eastern part of the west to east gas pipeline project, which is successfully built and put into operation.

The west east gas pipeline project started construction in July 2002 is the longest distance pipeline project with the longest distance, the largest diameter, the highest pressure, the largest gas transportation volume and the highest technology content in China. The total length is 3900 km. The project starts from Lunnan, Xinjiang's Tarim Basin, and ends at Qingpu Baihe Town in the west of Shanghai. The eastern section is from Jingbian to Shanghai in the north of Shaanxi Province. The total length is 1485 kilometers. In October 1, 2003, the eastern section was built and put into operation successfully.
